FAQ: I can’t launch the program!

If you’re having trouble running HDoujin Downloader, here are a few things you can try.

  • Check that .NET Framework 4.0 is installed.

HDoujin Downloader requires Microsoft’s .NET Framework 4.0 to run, which can be installed from Microsoft’s website here. Windows 10 will come with all versions of the framework pre-installed, but older versions of Windows might not have by default. If you see an error message when attempting to run the program, this might be the solution for you.

  • Check folder permissions.

If you try to run HDoujin Downloader from a system directory (e.g., “Program Files”) where it does not have sufficient read/write permissions, it may be unable to write/read its settings files or unable to run altogether. In this case, you will need to either run the program as an administrator (right-click > “Run as Administrator”), or move it to a different directory that doesn’t require special permissions, such as a user directory (Documents, Downloads, etc.).

  • Check to make sure that you extracted the archive.

If you downloaded HDoujin Downloader from one of the primary download URLs, you will have a ZIP archive (with the “.zip” extension). While you can normally run the program directly from the archive, it is recommended that the archive be extracted to ensure that settings files can be saved and external libraries (required for PDF conversion and history support) can be accessed properly. Windows is able to extract ZIP archives without the use of any external software– Just right-click the archive, click “Extract All”, and follow the steps using the wizard that appears.

  • Check if your antivirus software is preventing the program from running.

If you try to run HDoujin Downloader and nothing happens, make sure that your antivirus software is not blocking the program from starting up by adding HDoujin Downloader’s folder to your exceptions list. If the executable disappears altogether when you try to run it, this is a red-flag that your antivirus software is flagging the program and automatically deleting it. If this happens, please let me know so I can submit the program for white-listing.
