How do I put the browser behavior back to how it was before?

Post by tewcsmcduke » Sat Aug 24, 2024 11:30 pm

Hey Squidy, very nice update thus far.

Just one question though. When I press open URL on any link it now keeps opening Edge browser which I don't want. I use Brave. This behavior is really annoying and changing the browser setting doesn't seem to fix it. Brave is also set as my default browser any every other link I click opens Brave. It is only in HDD that it opens edge.

I added browser detection in this update to enable the "use private window" setting (to determine which flags to use when opening the window), so something is probably going wrong there.

I'm not totally sure why it's detecting your default browser as Microsoft Edge, though. I installed Brave on my end to see if it would work as expected, and it seems fine. Either way, I updated the code for this so that it only bothers with browser detection when "use private window" is enabled. I also added explicit detection for Brave, so hopefully it will work as expected even when this setting is enabled.

I'll upload a new update soon!

Not sure if related but I set it to open links in Firefox private, but it only works if I have a Firefox private browser already open (which I usually do so not a big issue). Otherwise it opens my Windows default browser (Brave).

I've been trying to reproduce this ever since I saw your post, but so far I haven't been able to. The fact it opens in Firefox at all means it's finding Firefox's install path, so I'm not sure why closing it would suddenly prevent that. :hmm: :hmm:

So you set your preferred browser to Firefox, and you enable private windows. As long as Firefox is open, it will successfully open URLs inside of the private windows. But as soon as Firefox is closed, it will start opening them in your default browser instead, even though the settings haven't been touched at all. Is my understanding correct?

Out of curiosity, when it opens URLs in your default browser, are they opened in a private window?

Sorry for the late reply. I'm still on 2024.8.25 but it seems to be working fine now, tried a few times with Firefox open/closed.
